how would you do the math with 40% commission receiving 2200 each month?

I am told that I make 40% of commission at a travel agency. I recieve 2200.00 per month less taxes. My boss is doing the math this way. Say I brought in 6500.00 commission. She is saying that 40% is 2600.00 then subtracting the 2200.00 leaving 400.00. Does that sound like correct math? I think she should deduct the 2200.00 6500.00 first leaving 4300.00 then multiplying that by 40% giving me a commission of 1720.00. What is correct?
